We’ll delve into our innovative shift from a traditional grade-level model to a SEL/Advisor structure, revealing how this transformation has enhanced the quality and accessibility of services across the board. Learn how we’ve empowered our staff to thrive by aligning their roles with their passions and expertise, while simultaneously addressing staffing challenges. Discover how Monticello’s unique approach has created a supportive and collaborative school community. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain practical insights into optimizing your student services team and unlocking your school’s full potential.
PRESENTER: Jami Cregan, PK-12 School Counselor, Monticello School District
Jami Cregan is a PK-12 School Counselor who has spent her career in teaching and counseling students, staff and families in ways to build their physical, social and mental health. Jami has worked in grade level buildings at all levels in a larger school district, in a therapeutic school supporting students with significant behaviors, served as a PK-12 school counselor (only one in the building) in a small rural school and now has the PK-12 school counselor focusing on SEL, behavior support and mental health.
PRESENTER: Jesse Wahl, School Advisor, Monticello School District
Jesse Wahl is the current School Advisor for Monticello School District. In this role she works with students in developing their college and career readiness. Before working at Monticello Schools she spent 17 years at UW-Madison working with first year students with their transition to college, and she is excited to now be helping students decide what they will transition to after high school, be it college or career-based. Jesse & her husband are both graduates of Monticello High School along with both sets of their parents & are proud to say that their daughters are carrying on the tradition. Natalie recently graduated as a part of the Monticello Class of 2024 & will be headed to UW-Madison in the fall & Sylvia just finished her freshman year. The decision to return to a rural community to raise a family was intentional, as they wanted their daughters to experience the same benefits of a small school environment.
PRESENTER: Allen Brokopp, Superintendent Monticello School District
Allen Brokopp served as the District administrator of the Monticello School District for 12 years. Prior to that I served as the MS/HS Principal in Monticello after teaching science in Lac du Flambeau for nine years. Sixteen years of administration in Monticello has defined me as a rural superintendent, community member, husband, father, and friend. Monticello has about 380 students and 60 staff members. I have a passion for rural schools and their sustainability. I believe that rural schools are truly the heartbeat of their communities. Along with my wife of 24 years (Lori), I am extremely proud to have raised two strong daughters in a rural community. They now attend Edgewood College (Miah 22) and UW-Platteville (Sarah 20). They are who they are because of the teachers and community that provided them guidance and opportunities only available in areas like Monticello. When I am not working, I enjoy golfing, working outside, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family.
