The Community’s public school is the greatest discovery, and the cornerstone of our democratic societyHorace Mann

Good Afternoon,
I hope the first week of the new year went well for everyone. As we approach upcoming hearings at the capitol, along with budget discussions within the JFC, I ask that you stay up-to-date on the information from WiRSA, SAA and WASB. It is our goal to remain united and to not look fractured. If you are starting an initiative in your region, please keep us in the loop so we can assist and bring all the regions in the state together. It is through this united front we will have our best chances of making an impact.

The Future of the US DOE
I received this from my counterpart in Montana and found it interesting: This link is a 1-minute clip from Senator Jon Tester (MT) which might be of interest concerning the future of US DOE and its view of small and rural.

Mental Health in Schools
Why Support Mental Health in Schools?, a new video from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, shares the voices of students, educators, and mental health professionals from Hortonville. The community is much like many in the state – but its experience is instructive and its extensive collaboration around this issue is inspiring.

State Superintendent Tony Evers is proposing budget provisions to support mental health in schools. Those provisions and the video can be found here.

Do you know someone who would be a great principal?

(I used this program with many of my young teachers that showed an interest in administration.)

The Aspiring Administrator Workshop is for outstanding educators whom we hope to attract to school administration. The Workshop’s primary purpose is to connect teachers, whose career goals include seeking administrative positions, to currently practicing administrators through publications, inservice programs, attendance at WFEA-sponsored programs, AWSA meetings, etc.

These opportunities will provide an excellent introduction to topics, issues, problems, and other facets of school administration. Registrants are given the option between three different dates/locations so they may choose the one that best fits their schedule.

March 28 – Holiday Inn @ American Center,

Madison March 29 – Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, Appleton

March 30 – Holiday Inn-South, Eau Claire
